Title: Work Space

(Created: 20.10.2022 / Thursday)

Overview: I just submitted the following to a Japanese Wood Workers group in FB

Article: I need some advice and/or recommendations from the group. I just moved to a new house but had to significantly downsize my wood working shop from a large to very small space but dedicated mostly to wood working.

I am a hand tool only guy so I have lots of hand tools both traditional Western and Japanese styles. Getting them all arranged and ordered nicely is where I am now but the next stop is the working area.

In the past I have always used an English joiners bench and am considering cutting my large bench down to 150 cm or going even smaller to a Roman style bench which seem to be getting popular these days.

I was wondering how Japanese woodworkers set up their work space so I started looking online for example but didn't find anything useful.

Are there any videos online featuring what a Japanese workshop really looks like, how all the tools are stored, and how it is all managed? I am not opposed to dumping my traditional bench for something more suitable to a very small workshop as long as it is efficient.

I am also open to any and all suggestions and thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Title: Care a Bowl

(Created: 09.10.2022 / Sunday)

Overview: A tutorial by Paul Sellers on carving a bowl with just hand tools

Article: This is a very informative video. Here is an overview from the video:

I can't imagine any woodworker who wouldn't at some point in their woodworking, want to carve a bowl from a chunk of wood using their hands and a couple of basic tools.

I put this together to show the basic steps and tools I suggest as patterns and methods of working to create a three-dimensional shaped object from solid wood.

You can use any wood you have as scraps, including construction lumber. It's a neat couple of hours of work and great to do with the kids too.
